Ben Stack was born in Dublin in 1959. He studied at the Dun Laoghaire School of Art in Dublin, Ireland, and also studied drawing techniques in the Kunstacademie, Maastricht, Holland. In 1979 he enrolled in the National College of Art and Design, Dublin, studying painting, drawing and mixed media and was awarded a Diploma in Fine Art (Honours) in 1982. He received his Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts (Honours) in 1984. Between his studies, Stack lived and worked in north America, Europe and north Africa. He was a founding member and resident teacher at Ballyrogan Arts Centre in Wicklow, Ireland, and helped establish Masha'allah Studios - an arts co-operative in Mombasa, Kenya. Later, he set up "... and then there were three", based in Nairobi, a co-operative focussing on the art of three cultures, with artists from Japan and Zaire. He held positions in art, set design and production in organisations as varied Rice University, Houston, Texas, Artworks, SES, Dublin, Ireland, Robert Keith and Company, San Diego, California, Pie In The Sky advertising, San Francisco, California, Holtzmueller Productions, San Francisco, California and the Lyceum and Globe Theatres, San Diego, California, USA. Stack emigrated to Australia in 1999 and has worked here consistently since then.
