"My artwork is about observation, spending
time outside each day, I begin to see the amazing diversity of life and
how it is connected. My garden and surrounds are a ‘microcosm’
for the greater environment. Layers of life above and below the ground,
interacting, growing, breathing, feeding and cycling energy around us.
I am inspired by what I see, the individual variety, intricate detail
and unique forms of what may at first appear to be simple elements –
leaves, flowers, insects, water. I am interested in the way these forms
and patterns are connected by seasonal occurrence and constantly changing.
I see the landscape as more than the ‘view’, rather an ecology
of connected and inter-related elements that together signify a particular
place.
Works are developed through drawings, textural rubbings, collage and findings,
combining multiple images from these observations into layered paintings."
