Andrew Mangelsdorf is inspired by the beach culture which punctuates his life - sun drenched people, cars, boats and vistas. "Bright colour is very important to my work as it reflects the fun and colourful atmosphere that I want to create", says Andrew. It is important to him that his art stirs memories and emotions in the viewer to remind them of the images of their youth and summers at the beach. He uses objects and words to add texture to his art. “My work has to be fun, colourful and simplistic in its content. I would prefer to have visual impact than a deep and meaningful work full of symbolism and puzzling dark secrets,” he says. He works with acrylic on canvas using freestyle airbrush combined with paintbrush. The combination of technique and subject matter give the impression of summer haze and salt spray over the finished art. Awards + highlights |
