artist’s statement
Old fabrics which have been treasured, folded and tucked away, then passed
on, gathered from my own and close friends` hiding places … treasured
pieces, discarded clothing or forgotten sheets. Little scraps, seemingly
insignificant but with more depth and history than initially meets the
eye. I work with reactive dyes on silk, using techniques that allows me
to build the surface up, layer by layer. This way I aim to create fabrics
with depth, warmth and a sense of space.
By bringing these materials back out into the world, cutting them up,
seeing them with fresh eyes and revealing them with all their imperfections,
I am attempting to celebrate the courage to be seen, the daring in allowing
oneself to be impacted upon and the beauty of being unravelled a little
….
