“When asked to describe my painting style, I reply by saying I am an emotional painter. My aim when I pick up a paint brush or a piece of charcoal is to create a work with as much energy and movement as I can muster . . . something animated and emotive. I may be influenced by a phrase or a song or a situation. Some works will be spontaneous and other evolve over a period of time...whatever the case my intention is to relate a story or moment with a little bit of soul and hopefully the viewer looks beneath the surface and responds to all that emotion.” Julie Hutchings was born in 1959. Her early career was devoted to horses – working as a strapper and later managing a horse stud. She began studying commercial art in 1988, and has since pursued both interests with equal passion. Horses, racing and jockeys are a significant theme in one strand of her work, while her studies of the human form exhibit the energy and emotion she hopes to bring to her work. She has exhibited in a number of galleries, and
her works are held in private collections in Australia and New Zealand.
