artist statement

I have always enjoyed the immediacy of photography. A shape, a colour, a highlight arrests the eye - you dissect it with the lens, record the image and move on. It's quick and allows a certain spontaneity in dealing with form and composition.

Artistic merit in the man-made that has been layered over time with decay, repair, and then more decay. Value in urban graffitied surfaces reflecting optimism, scepticism, the practical, humour and often, abandoned human endeavour. A quest for those visual delights paraded before us daily which we too often don't have the time to appreciate or just don't choose see.
