Jillian Bradley was born in Newcastle NSW in 1984. She is in her last year of a combined degree, Bachelor of Visual Arts and Bachelor of Secondary Education at Southern Cross University in Lismore. Jillian has participated in a range of art expos, and works on private commissions while completing her studies. Her mixed media approach involves the use of paint, charcoal, shellac, wax and bitumen in a process of layering and erasure to reveal underlying raw, organic line work. Bradley develops her images from initial loose memory sketches and blind contour drawings. The process of abstraction is as much to do with abstention, or restraint and withholding of information, as it is with active expression. Recognisable content and meaning is deliberately obscured, requiring the viewer to extract his or her own meaning without prompts or cues from the artist. Jillian is working towards her first solo exhibition.
